Visual Description

Lacus Mortis appeared as a roughly hexagonal dark patch in the northeastern highlands, located south of Mare Frigoris. The feature’s most distinctive characteristic was the crater Bürg near its center, displaying a prominent central peak. The lake’s basaltic floor showed typical smooth mare characteristics, though it was notably smaller than the major maria and surrounded by bright highland terrain.
